fmmobley 0 #1 November 20, 2006 I have a fairly new Rawa helmet. I want to cut a small part of the camera box off -- shortening the section that protects the lens, which is currently too long for a new lens I want to start using. Has anyone cut on this type of helmet? (I think it is carbon fibre) Are special tools required? What do I need to watch out for?... Marion
demoss99 0 #2 November 20, 2006 Do you know for sure the lens doesn't work with the helmet? If so and you have to end up modifying the helmet there are several discussion threads on here addressing how to go about cutting carbon fiber (ie. mask, gloves, remove camera and other electronics from the work area). Also - would it be possible to add a UV filter or other adaptor ring to get you some length to clear the distance you need? You can cut carbon fibre with a fine toothed saw, or something powered like a dremel. I would be very careful of the dust and any electronics anywhere near it. Careful like keep your cameras in another room careful. When you are done, use some epoxy or clear nail polish over the edge after a light sanding to keep the fibres from unraveling. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.

cj1150gs 0 #5 November 21, 2006 Mine's fiberglass. I've cut a bit of the camera case (to gain some space for Cameye's LANC connector) and I've drilled the helmet itself at several places to acommodate wires. It's a straightforward job with a Dremel or even manual tools like saw and file. Carlos Martins Portugal www.cj.smugmug.com
