nikejumper 0 #1 December 31, 2006 So my parents got me a camera that I can fly with for xmas, I just have a quick question. I would not be flying the cam for million dollar shots or to shot anyone/formation, I just want to be able to after the day is over to go back to my house and be like "ya i remember that, that was sweet!" or just have something that I can show my friends that dont jump. The problem is that I'm still pretty new, is there anything that I should be on the look out when jumping with a camera any help would be greatIs it saturday yet? Icon134 0 #2 December 31, 2006 I'll take this one guys... the recommendation that you are likely to get just about anywhere it to wait until you have 200 jumps and a C-license. Of course that is the USPA recommendation... and if you are in the US you should probably that section in the SIM. more or less at 23 jumps you have enought to think about that you that you don't need to have the extra problems associated with having a camera attached to your head.Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife... Ms.sofaking 0 #3 December 31, 2006 I am new too.I started a similar thread and got the same advice.The more I asked people I knew, the more sense it made.I'm just passing this information along.I am no expert.Some one said go ahead and start, but on the ground, shooting landings and such.Then when I'm ready for free fall filming I'll be familiar with the equiptment. My personal instructor and photographer mentioned complications with camera equiptment and malfuntions, such as entanglement with camera equiptment, which I never thought of. He has a quick release helmet for this reason.One more complication as a beginner I don't think I should add to my skydiving right now.But you should of course seek the advice of experienced jumpers and photographers."I'm not sure how it's going to turn out, except I'll die in the end, she said. DSE 5 #4 December 31, 2006 Our DZO won't allow anyone with low jump numbers to wear a cam for many reasons, including those commonly cited. I was allowed to start a bit early, as I'd been taken on a few "can you do this/that/other thing" jumps tht included RW work and landing tests. Even then, wasn't allowed until 100 jumps. All that aside, even though some say "start whenever," as hard as it is to wait, do you *really* want to risk yourself and others this early on? Waiting sucks, it's hard, been there and done that. But...it makes that first jump with a cam that much more sweet, and more likely that you'll get good vid. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
