BirdWoman 0 #1 April 20, 2007 Does anybody here use a method other than a laptop or PC to pull their stills and put onto a cd? A friend told me about a self supporting unit that takes the stills from flash card and transfers them directly to a disc. http://aleratec.com/diphcocrdifl.html (sorry, I don't know how to make it a clicky) Can anybody offer suggestions on units like this or offer some kind of alternative way to pull stills without a computer? I don't want to buy a used, cheap laptop for the dz just for this purpose... BirdWoman 0 #3 April 20, 2007 Thanks for making it a clicky. Do you use this unit or know anybody who does?"I don't know where it is that I'm going, but wherever it is there I'll be!" --quoted by me
dragon2 2 #4 April 20, 2007 We have 2 camera people at our dz that use stand-alone cd-burners for tandem photos. Not that particular brand, Apacer i think, but yeah we use them. ciel bleu, Saskia
LouDiamond 1 #5 April 20, 2007 QuoteThanks for making it a clicky. Do you use this unit or know anybody who does? We've had one at the Reaford school house for at least a year + now. Arvel would be able to comment on it more since I know he uses the hell out of it."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
SkymonkeyONE 4 #6 April 21, 2007 The ones at Raeford burn right off of memory cards. I believe what the OP might have been asking, though, was how do you get stills off of a video and onto a CD. The way I do it is to play back the video and snap stills along the way with the photo button on my camcorder. That saves the images to the memory card. From there, you can either move your memory card over to your reader on your PC or stick it straight into a burner (like we have a Raeford). BirdWoman 0 #9 April 22, 2007 Let me re-phrase this question. I have a digital Rebel XT. The only method I have to pulls stills is at home on my PC. I need something for the dz to perform this function and don't want to spend $600 on a cheap laptop because I would rather buy a nice one when I have the $$. What is the feed-back on these self-contained units (like the one you mentioned you use at Rayford)? Are they easy to use? Is there any kind of a display screen so that you can select what pics you take from the card to put on the cd, or does it take the most recently shot pics and automatically transfer them? (SkyMonkey...I've moved from CO to TX. I'm down here were all the cool birdies hang out. Maybe I can actually have somebody to fly with when I'm not busy flying vids ) "I don't know where it is that I'm going, but wherever it is there I'll be!" --quoted by me
LouDiamond 1 #10 April 22, 2007 QuoteIs there any kind of a display screen so that you can select what pics you take from the card to put on the cd, or does it take the most recently shot pics and automatically transfer them? No, you stick you CF card in it(or other memory card) a blank CD and then hit transfer. Viola! you now have a CD with whatever images were on the CF card. They are very easy to use as there are very few buttons you can press as it is."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
PhreeZone 20 #11 April 23, 2007 Exactly! Its fast enough to burn 2 CD's while you are doing a tandem video. Give one to the customer, keep one for your self then clear the memory card for the next load. At the end of the day I take my copies of the CD's and rearchive them on my computer and toss the CD's into a firesafe in case of Hard drive failure.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
BirdWoman 0 #12 April 23, 2007 That's good to know. I was wondering about what to do if I had to reformat my card each jump. What do you do in the case of a back-to-back and you have two or more separate jumps to pull? Have you ever had any problems of the pics not transfering to the disc and then erasing them from the card before you realise it? Thanks a ton for the info...it's giving me some stuff to think about."I don't know where it is that I'm going, but wherever it is there I'll be!" --quoted by me
SkymonkeyONE 4 #13 April 23, 2007 I don't recall us ever having a problem with the burner "not taking" files off the card. If it won't burn straight to disk in the burner, then it's not going to save to your PC either. Again, I can't recall us ever having a problem with it at Raeford. It's very quick to burn the photo CD, Stacey, but if you are back-to-backing and require digital stills on that jump, then you will probably need another card or memory stick for your camera. The burners we had a Raeford take all kinds of cards/memory sticks.
jtval 0 #14 April 23, 2007 That unit seems like a good cheap way to get pics to disc but do you have some type of screen to show the pictures on? I have only just started to jump digital, I have jumped film cams for a few years. I have 8 jumps on my digital cam and so far EVERY ONE of those pictures sold becuase I was able to show them to the student. about 1/2 of them only wanted video until they saw the digital pictures. My photos My Videos
