flyer299 0 #1 June 21, 2007 I am sure this has been talked about before, but I only have so much time to search for old topics (I did try for a little bit). Anyone with experince tell me what they like / dislike when it come to deciding between a Flattop Pro and a narrow? I've been flying Video for 4 years and am looking to step up to a bigger platform. I want a choice to vertically mount a still camera or horizontal mount. Plus I want to move to a top mounted Video camera (always had mine on the left side). PhreeZone 20 #2 June 21, 2007 The Narrow just doesn't have enough real estate space for top mounting both cameras. The Still would have to be front mounted and thats too much weight up there for me all the time.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Laszloimage 0 #3 June 21, 2007 I customized my FTP. I bought a 3mm thick 10”x12” carbon fiber plate on e-bay for $25. Also I cut out a major piece of the right side of the helmet, so I could mold in my flash. The whole thing looks wide (actually it is) but still doesn’t stick out to the side as far as any other side mount vid. camera. Lot of space to move things around quickly… I also use the Arca-Swiss style quick release clamps. Please see the attached pictures. -Laszlo- I can utilize the "L" bracket (missing from these pictures) on the front too if I have to...
flyer299 0 #4 June 21, 2007 I like that mount you are using for your Still camera to all you to go Flat or upright. Is that custom or something you bought?
Stumpy 284 #5 June 21, 2007 Laszlo's looks like it might be custom, but have a look at the really right stuff thread for a good alternative Edited to add: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2699057;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unreadNever try to eat more than you can lift
Laszloimage 0 #6 June 21, 2007 I bought the "L" bracket on e-bay. It was made for some older Nikon camera. After a 1minute grindig it's a universal now; it works with both my XT and 5D. Really Right Stuff is a same idea, but more expensive. The Arca-Swiss style quick release clamp is kind of standard, the 2inch wide ones about $40 on e-bay. Also there's more holes on my home made plate with nuts glued onto the other side. So I can mount or remove stuff fast with a philips screw driver. And the whole thing is LIGHT! Brains 2 #7 June 22, 2007 Ken, Jeff from San Marcos here. I have had both. Spend the extra $45 and go with the pro. The extra space up top is well worth it. I kicked myself every day after buying a narrow.Edit to add: I don't ahve any pics of mine on this computer but i have my 20D vertical and my video next to it all on top no overhang. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.
