PC-9 and still camera questions

Recommended Posts

To all youse guys and girls in the know. I am seriously thinking about flying video after 11 years in the sport. I've had a PC-9 for years just playing around while freeflying.

If I were to start shooting tandems would this camera still be sufficient?

Also, I'd really like to and obviously would have to start doing stills, which is something I have never done. Anyone got a good choice for a still camera? I assume the Rebel, as I see many people using it.

BTW, I decided to order Norman's video to help. Thanks.

I have no experience with the PC9 but regarding stills, yes, the Rebel XTi seems to be the preferred choice of stills cam. The 18-55 lens that comes with the camera is ok to start with and some people get great results and a few cover shots with it but once you are proficient at flying stills you might want to spend some money and go slightly wider, say with the Sigma 15 fixed lens or even the Tamron 10 - 17 (at least that's the size i think). These lenses will match up nicely with a .42 wide angle video lens.

Good luck and have fun, tandem camera has been one of the most fulfilling things i have ever done :)

The PC 9 is sufficient for something like tandems, though the optics are some what mediocre for high quality video.

As for the stills, if you're just looking to do tandems, go with a 35mm Rebel.

You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
