Getting Started

Recommended Posts

I've been in video production for about 10 years and editing professionally for the past 5. I've always wanted to skydive and would make parachutes for my one fake generic G.I Joe guy when I was a kid. (just like everybody else I suppose.) But the closest I ever came to actually doing it was just recently in my sleep before waking up with my heart pounding, LMFAO and extremely high on an adrenaline, endorphine, and seretonin cocktail. (I suspect it was better than a wet dream. I unfortunately never had one so couldn't tell ya....and I don't need ur pitty).......anyways...sorry for the BS.....

I'm saving for my AFF and don't plan on flying a camera until at least a C license and have the control to take quality video safely. To be quite honest...I couldn't live with myself if I caused a death and I take it very seriously.

My questions are....how realistic is it for me to expect to become an editor for skydiving content while I'm persuing my licenses? Is it primarily, on average, the cameraflyer's responsiblity to hire an editor if they don't edit themselves or do the DZ's hire? It's not about the money but is it realistic to just edit and be able to just get by? (say an extra $500-$1000 a month) I suppose the best way to get started is to "just do it"....but any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated. I just simply can't ignore this desire anymore....it's constantly on my mind. I would even be willing to move practically anywhere in the world to be able to start as an editor. I live in Socal and perris doesn't need an editor right now....if you need one or know somebody who does....please let me know....

Thanks alot for reading and sorry for being so dramatic....but this sport humbles me.

Best Regards,

Corey

Also...I would like to hear any comments on getting started if you feel commpelled to give them...I would also love for you to make fun of my post....just make it good and nasty.......

i am not sure where you are in socal but check with skydive santa barbara as they may be looking for an editor.. dave is the dz owner and john is an editor but is leaving soon so give them a shout.. i started jumping last august and i am a camera guy now with 340 jumps. it can be done and is realistic. i video tandems and the dz edits. i edit my own fun jumps and made about 15 (10min) videos so far. i am not sure about supporting yourself on just editing,, others might help you there. good luck
dont let life pass you by
