DSE 5 #1 July 13, 2007 When using your camcorder (not stills) do you use auto exposure/shutter? Or do you use manual settings? Combination of auto/manual? Yes, 'nother "research" question I set my exposure manually, set focus manually, unless it's a tandem, in which case I set exposure to auto, and focus to manual. Do you bother with White Balance/WB? Are you a set-it-and-forget-it shooter, or are you a knob tweaker?
sinjin 0 #2 July 13, 2007 i guess i use a combination.. i use manual focus on a single element lens on a hc-42. i use auto on the white balance just because i am not sure i could adjust it more accurately. i will knob tweek if it looks like the picture is distorted. If it looks quality then i leave it alone as far as the video camera goes. i have gone full manual on the stills but i took a class and that helped a lot. and it has been said before but thanks for everything that you do on this forum to help me/us out with the technical side of videography.dont let life pass you by
damion75 0 #3 July 13, 2007 Manual focus, auto exposure. Although I have had some video (canopy stuff - filming a primarily white canopy) which ended up quite blown out using the auto settings. Funnily enough I have just started getting into stills - including doing a class - and I now reckon I know why it did that! Strange that there is so much instruction out there on how to do good stills photography and so little on the video side, which is essentially similar in many basic ways.*************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus. PharmerPhil 0 #4 July 13, 2007 Manual Focus, auto exposure. But in some situations (high noon, very bright overcast, dark skinned people, or looking straight up) I'll set the AE to +1, or just set program AE to Beach and Ski. I don't mind the sky getting blown out as much as having my subject's face too dark. I don't do this for RW though. I use auto white balance on video. Laszloimage 0 #5 July 13, 2007 I use all of them! Lower end cameras don't have too much WB options though. On my VX-2000 I've been tweeking with WB but I found the auto working very well too. In production and steady light conditions I would use the manual of course. -Laszlo-
jtval 0 #6 July 14, 2007 Manual both. focus should be a no brainer Exposure is something you gotta toy with each day and every few hours I usually set my cam to time value between 500-800. and aperature value varies. My photos My Videos
USPA 0 #7 July 14, 2007 why would you put your shutter above 120? (Not during jumping, but when I use a PD-170 at work, i almost always use 50)The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
