monarch1 0 #1 July 17, 2007 Is there a minimum tandem jump number for using a handcam? I'm thinking about getting one, does anyone have any suggestions on handcam gloves? Thanks
Low-Mao 0 #2 July 17, 2007 Perhaps the following post can be of some assistance http://www.dropzone.com/forum/Skydiving_C1/Instructors_F37/Handcam_glove_question_P1567855 You could also make your own custom system using a micro lens (MVC3000-H Miniature) that would hook up to a recorder (small mini dv camera) mounted anywhere on your body via hardwire. There are many variations of these lenses and can be relativley less expensive. Some even come smaller than a glove handcam and have great resolution. DSE 5 #3 July 17, 2007 The Ozonefly glove is very interesting, I've gotten one of those, a Waycool, and a no-name from the US. Of the three I've got, I prefer the Ozonefly for comfort and build. I'm not a TM, however, I'm using it for many other activities (rock climbing cutaways, BMX, MotoX, and in one case, demolition derby cutaway). I've also gotten probably 20 jumps with it, and a TM here has about the same. It's by far the most adjustable of the gloves/wrist mounts I've seen. I can't comment on # of jumps, since I'm not a TM, but my assumption would be that you'd want a number of tandems under your belt before adding a cam to the mix, wouldn't you? Rover 11 #4 July 26, 2007 I started doing tandems after doing 1400 jumps, of which 800 were camera jumps. I did my 1st handcam jump after 100 tandems. In hindsight I feel that in my case that this was acceptable as I was current, albeit inexperienced in tandems and comfortable with working with cameras and putting together video footage. However if you have no or little knowledge of camera operation, this distraction could become problematic. Advice when you start, skydive safe first, vid last. With a good lens and camera even mediocre footage can be sellable. Re gear, I use a Waycool glove and the 0.25 Blackeye lens and I have nothing but praise for the quality of both products and service, Finally do your homework on vid camera. Different cameras have different specs re wide angle ability. Don't assume they are the same bearing in mind wider is better as it's only at arms length. Make sure the camera has a Lanc port. Don't bounce, but if you do keep the camera running.2 wrongs don't make a right - but 3 lefts do.
