His poor neck...

Recommended Posts

As a freefall photographer I got a kick out of this old blog post I found while google searching for the spec weight of a 30D.

On a related note, I weighed my Canon 20D and Sigma 18-200 lens. It’s a monster 1.25kg (or almost 3lbs)! No wonder I hurt my back last year. Carrying that amount of weight around one’s neck is a sure fire way of getting to know your physiotherapist better!

Poor guy, with a 3 pound necklace. :D Try cantilevering 10 pounds several inches above your head!

It's so hard not to type a reply to this guy.
NEVERMIND that we jump with weighted helmets.

I just hiked up a "difficult" path today (5+miles/3 hours)
I did 7-9 miles(9 hours) last tuesday all the time with a 70-200 2.8L around my neck a camel pack with all kinds of gear and my dog (only 7 lbs. but still a dog) tied to my belt loop from a 6 ft leash.

I had my tripod handle stuck in the loops on the back ot the camel pack that kept hitting me in the leg when I walked.

Damn shame an ALMOST 3 lb camera could hurt this guys back. Maybe he should walk to McDonalds next time he wants a double 1/4-pounder:D

His poor neck? Lol, I now have a plate, four screws, and some fused vertebrae in my neck! (pics coming soon) Result of several slammer openings while wearing a 20D, sigma 15mm, trv19, all mounted on top of a flat top pro.B|[:/]

Ouch. What canopy? And what was the weight of that helmet with all cameras on it?

Canopy, a heavily modded cobalt 105. I sent it back to skyworks and they fixed it, by then it was too late. I now jump (well, not NOW) a katana 107 and have sold all video flying gear. My old FTP weighed around 7.5-8 lbs. These openings were virtually instantaneous, about 12 in a row while training for nationals last year. Surgery was just three weeks ago so it will be a while before i jump again if i get to.
