rhys 0 #1 September 15, 2007 Hi Again, I am moving to a DZ where I will be doing both outside and handcam videos. My PC350 is all good and with a service will last me but I want a spare camera for when the unforeseen glitch happens. There are plenty of these DCRHC38E available new. They look small and thin for side mount. I've never seen one physically though.Looking at the specs they only have an 800k CCD and my Pc350 has a 3mp one so the footage must look crap on those? There are heaps of them new for NZ$600 which is only US$430. There must be options of reasonable quality, I would like another PC350 but the cheapest I can find a PAL version is US$1289! more than double the price I paid for mine 1.5 years ago!!! . Does anyone know were to buy a good, reliable, still currently available worth less than US$1000 preferably Sony mini DV cam that would be suitable for side mount and handcam and produce footage with reasonable quality for Tandem videos as well as competition jumps? Rover 11 #2 September 17, 2007 98% sure you will find that the 38 doesn't have a LANC port.2 wrongs don't make a right - but 3 lefts do.

Hi Rhys Sadly, it seems no such beast exists. The HC38 is a little wider than the HC30/HC40 series but cookie do make a sidemount box for it, although as mentioned by another poster no LANC port. Best options appear to be either buy secondhand (ebay etc..) or go topmount and use HC3/HC5/HC7 etc.. AFAIK, the NTSC/PAL doesn't matter unless you intend to play directly from the handycam to a television or use the A/V output. If you are using firewire to transfer video, then no problem using an NTSC camera and making PAL DVDs. regards WayneThe difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits." -- Albert Einstein
