PC1000 NTSC with PAL footage

Recommended Posts

Hello all,
I have a PC1000 from the US and just recently I was in Spain and I got my friend's PAL format video transferred to my camera.
When I try to capture the footage to Windows Movie Maker it doesn't capture the PAL portion of the tape.
All I want to do is make a movie clip in my computer, nothing fancy.
I have searched the forums but didn't find a definite answer.
I also have the latest version of Premier Pro if anyone knows how to do it.

I would certainly appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you

If your original project settings are for NTSC...you need to make a second project ( set project settings to PAL) and capture the PAL footage in that.

Once captured you can import the PAL clips into your NTSC project...you will need to do some correction to reduce any frame skips and sizing issues.

Personally I have found it easier doing a PAL project ( when I have mixed footage) importing the NTSC clips and adjusting these to suit the PAL project ( as opposed to the other way around).
But...
You wont be able to do alot in Movie Maker to adjust the PAL footage so it 'matches' the NTSC clips...(ie speed and image size) but its can be done in PP

I have a PC-106 which can reproduce both PAL (native) and NTSC, but NTSC only internally, i.e. on camera display (It is like on yours, just the other way arround). The only way I could download non-native format (NTSC) is via USB connection. This camera has docking station with USB/Firewire transfer selector. I don`t know if your camera has USB connection option, but if it does, be aware. The footage you download with USB is nowhere near the quality of the Firewire and it largely depends on the speed of the computer.
