Andrewnewell 0 #1 October 6, 2007 Hi everyone, was wondering if anyone out there knows of any manufacture that is producing roll cages for the new range of HD sony camcorders?
DSE 5 #2 October 6, 2007 Haven't seen any roll cages that are commercially available, just boxes. However, RedKite has a very sweet system on his helmet that you might want to check out.

DSE 5 #5 October 6, 2007 Last night I epoxied two carbon fiber plates at a right angle. Still waiting for the epoxy to completely cure, but it looks identical to how Wes makes his 90 degree joints. Anyone had experience with one of these coming apart? It looks weak. I'll have a better grip after this cures, but right now...I don't know that I'd trust my cameras on this. If you put a light code of epoxy on and then lay the fabric over the joint and then use a foam paint brush dipped in rubbing alchol you can get a very, very strong joint. That's how I repair CF landing gear on my RC Planes. It's the same method as laying up fiberglass for working with that sort of thing. BK
DSE 5 #7 October 7, 2007 Epoxy was just the "5 minute/two part" stuff you buy at Home Depot. No, I don't have any CF fabric. Haven't found a place that will sell me a very small amount so I can experiment with these joints. I did read that tip on an RC forum, but haven't the materials. I'd like to try it, I'm experimenting with some marginally unique mounting methods.
freefalle 0 #8 October 7, 2007 DSE try http://www.uscomposites.com/index.htm I think they may sell carbon fiber in small amounts. If not let me know how much you need (want) Im going to be ordering a fairly good amount here in the near future. I can order some extra and ship it to you. Bill_K 0 #9 October 7, 2007 I would recommend a stronger epoxy. Do you have a local hobby shop? They may carry some two part finishing resine. It's a 60 minute setup, 24 before you can sand it and pretty bullet proof type stuff. you could use plain old fiberglass over the joints. Just thin the resign with 50% dentured alchol and spread it on the joint area and out about 1", then lay the firber glass cloth over the joint. Then you can use a foam brush or even a finger to spread and smooth the fiber glass down. Between the epoxy on the joint and the added fiberglass you'll have a VERY strong joint when your done and without a huge weight hit.
