D40X vs. EOS400d (Latest Rebel)

All, bit of advice needed, more specifically from the Nikon crowd. I am buying someone one of the above cameras as a pressie. She has seen a D40X and really likes it but i am a little concerned about the lens limitations on it - what lenses are available for this camera as i understand its different to all the other Digi Nikons?
I'm hoping she will like the EOS 400d because i have a 20d (which is too big for her hands) and then i can pinch her lenses (and probably vice versa!!)

The D40X has an F-Mount which means it can use pretty much any lens Nikon ever made but it does not have an internal focusing motor which means it will only auto-focus with AF-S and AF-I lenses.

I don't know about the majority but they do make quite a few consumer grade lenses that will work.

My advice to you is. Ask her what she wants, the Canon or Nikon then stick by the answer no matter of what you want. This way will not come around and smack you in the back of the head. Sure you might have to buy a couple of extra lenses and stuff, but its gadgets man. You can't have too many gadgets.

oh don't wory - that is the intention - i am just making sure my opinion is informed!

And i fully agree on the gadgets front - i suppose if she gets a nikon, no chance of her nicking my nice L-series stuff
