woodpecker 0 #1 October 15, 2007 Just ordered my Nikon D80 and now the work begins. I've only ever used your standard point and shoot digital camera and need some help getting started with my photo hobby. I'm wanting to shoot outdoors (mostly), landscapes, wildlife, etc. and need a recomendation of a book to start me out. I have no idea about iso, shutter speeds, etc. and could use the help. It will also give me something to do while i'm waiting for the camera to get here. Thanks in advance, BillySONIC WOODY #146 There is a fine line between cockiness and confidence -- which side of the line are you on?
dragon2 2 #2 October 15, 2007 Any decent photography book could teach ypou the basics of f-stops, shutter speeds etc, but I find it helps if the book matches the camera, or at least is about digital SLR's. This one I know people like: http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-D80-Dbook-Interactive-Photography/dp/1933952156/ref=sr_1_5/002-9779468-4394445?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1192451394&sr=1-5 Here are some more: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_i_1/002-9779468-4394445?ie=UTF8&rs=&keywords=nikon%20d80&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Anikon%20d80%2Ci%3Astripbooks ciel bleu, Saskia
damion75 0 #3 October 15, 2007 Just like jumping, books are great but nothing beats proper tuition... If you are still in the UK then most local colleges run evening classes on all sorts of subjects... including photography. I was lucky in getting a tutor who also happens to be one of the tandem vidiots from my DZ but in any event it is someone who can take you through the basics. Costs are normally low too. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.

KR spouts a lot of trash on his website that could really confuse a newbie. I'd recommend Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson to the OP as a start.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim.
