Peej 0 #2 October 17, 2007 Nothing. I try and do a good whole body stretch that includes my neck when i arrive at the DZ in the am but no specific exercises. I find my 350D and PC109 on my Optik weigh almost nothing anyway. Would be interested to see what the other guys say. VictorSuvorov 0 #3 October 17, 2007 just jump a slow openning canopy. what you described is less than half of weight that could potentially be mounted on your helmet if you get serious about photography (premium lens and a flash)
Laszloimage 0 #4 October 17, 2007 I do some YOGA strech and I wear a neck brace as a protection. The second one makes a huge difference when you have a harder opening, gives lot of extra support to your neck. I should have started to use one from the very begining... -Laszlo-
DougH 270 #5 October 17, 2007 Is that a football style neckbrace? It looks like it shouldn't restrict your range of motion too much."The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
Laszloimage 0 #6 October 17, 2007 It basically a foam. You can get these at medical supply stores. Normally the doctor prescribes these after a whip flash from a car accident or something loke that.

After having experienced over 500 CRW exits and openings of lightnings with camera(s) on my head, I was diagnosed with a neck hernia in 2004. I was send to a therapist and he learned me a very useful and simple neck-muscle excercise, that you can do anywhere anytime. It's called an Isometric Neck Exercise sit or stand up straight with you head facing forward, mouth closed, chin pushed somewhat inward, to make the spline as straight as possible Now push with your hand on your forehead, and at the same time using your neck muscles to prevent movement. Keep this for 10 second. Do the same thing on the sides and on the back of your head. Repeat the whole sequence at least once. I do this regularly, and it really helps (by the way, I am still jumping CRW, sometimes with (bullet) cam) You can find a similar excercise explained at: http://www.shapefit.com/neck-exercises-isometric-neck-exercises-front-back.html Caren

CaTo 0 #9 October 21, 2007 Quote Quetion, that hernia was caused for the camera CREW jumps? well, yes, the neurologists thought so. I also have arthritis in my neck `(other discs though) but the pain in my neck and back, and the numbness in my lefthand was the worst after jumping, and increased with each jump in that year. the specialist said that I better should not jump again.... but after a healing period of some month, and neck muscle training, and another camera setting (using a bullet cam bow, see website-about section) i can now jump again. by the way, the same neurologists (and the fysio) refused to put on a neckbrace when I was hurt: he did not approve of it, said it would only decrease the strenght in the muscles. Rest and muscle training should make the difference.Caren
Cantoral 1 #10 October 23, 2007 Wow, I never imagined that CRW jumps could cause an hernia, I mean, I would expect it of camera jobs on terminal velocity. Good to hear you are OK now and jumpingBlue Skies
skydiveoc 0 #11 October 26, 2007 one of the few times i hurt my neck was when doing weighted neck exercises. just do the above mentioned ones...no weights.

Never had to wait a few secs before pulling? My shoulder still hurts frequently due to a few of those openings a few years ago... Very glad those were without camera... You also have to bear the weight of the camera helmet much longer than during a freefall jump, although I like the openings better in general due to the head-up orientation I guess. ciel bleu, Saskia
