Bowen 0 #1 November 3, 2007 hey Guys, I have done a bunch of searching last night on DZ.com but I am still a little confused on still set ups I am trying to figure out what size mm still lens I should buy to match the field of view my Raynox 5050PRO 0.50 lens. I don’t mind it being a little wider then the Raynox. I will be using it for mostly tandems but also free flying. I plan on buying a XTI but I am also considering a 40D. it will be used for other things besides jumping Is a fixed lens faster and crisper in clearity for jumping then say a 10mm-22mm? The decision at this point is between a: Canon Super Wide Angle EF 20mm f/2.8 USM Autofocus Lens Sigma 20mm And a Sigma 15mm fish eye What do you guys think? I am sorry there are so many questions. I am just not that informative on still set ups yet. dragon2 2 #2 November 3, 2007 Canon over Sigma if you can afford it. Fixed over zoom if you can afford it. A 20mm is probably not quite wide enough, esp on a Canon. ciel bleu, Saskia

No but you said "esp on a Canon" Maby Im a smartass, but it just somehow gave me the impression like 20mm wouldn´t be wide enough on canons in general.. Im sorry.. LouDiamond 1 #6 November 3, 2007 Good questions but you left out the really important info.....is cost a factor? Short of that, I will reiterate what has been said about Canon over Sigma and Prime over zoom, but thats not to say the exact opposite wouldn't also work for your situation. I own both prime and zoom lenses ( ex Canon 50mm prime and Canon 24-105mm L IS USM) and use the lens best suited for what I am trying to achieve. A good place to gather more info about the specific lenses you are considering and maybe even pick up a used one, is HERE I own a few Sigma lenses and they work fine on my Digirebel but once I started using the canon lenses I could see a difference in the quality of the shots, this was even more evident when shooting with my 5D. I have also found primes to consistently give you sharper images than some zooms do.YMMV."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
Zee 0 #7 November 4, 2007 I sold my Sigma 15mm when I sold my old camera gear but, I took thousands of pictures with it and it's an excellent lens for skydiving. It wasn't as much fun when I switched to digital because of the crop factor - turns out to be the equivalent of a 24mm. Go fixed (prime) if you can afford it. Since you shoot Canon, go with Canon lenses if they offer what you're looking for and if you can afford it. The Sigma 15mm has been a popular choice for skydiving for many years though. It's nice piece of glass.... Action©Sports
