Icon134 0 #1 November 7, 2007 I don't think there has been a full discussion about this topic... (I did do a search) I am considering getting Sony Vegas for my nonlinear editing needs. Right now it will be primarily for editing SD captured from my HC-32 but long term I expect to get into HD editing (more then likely AVCHD using a camera like the CX-7 or its followon.) My question is that for most of my video editing needs (which are likely to be ultimately relatively basic...) do I really need anything more then what is available in Vegas Movie Studo Platinum or is it worth it to shell out the extra $$$ to get Sony Vegas Pro 8 (it's upwards of $300 more for ) Both of the packages appear to be able to read AVCHD (which I would think is all I would need...) Any thoughts from those of you that have used both would be appreciated. Comparison of Vegas Products Thanks, ScottLivin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife... DSE 5 #2 November 7, 2007 I'm the only one at our DZ using Vegas Pro 8. Everyone else is using Vegas Platinum, and doing just fine. Vegas Pro 8 has one advantage-scripting. At some point, I'll probably release the scripting tool I use for tandem vids; it really speeds the workflow for me, but it's not AT ALL necessary. Platinum should serve you just fine. Keep in mind that Platinum projects can be opened in Vegas Pro should you ever decide to go there.
