BMFin 0 #1 November 12, 2007 Anyone using Speedlite 430EX ? How does it perform in freefall ? I see a lot of people use the 500- series speedlites, but noone uses the 400 ? I really wouldnt want to spend the extra $ for the 580 series if the 430 is even reasonably good. Also im intrested to hear if anyone has experience over the Sigma EF-530 DG Super... it seems to be in the same price category as the 430EX.
Icon134 0 #2 November 12, 2007 I think some of the advantage of the 580 over the 430 is the refresh speed and the power output. I have a 580 and I really like it... (though I've only jumped with it a few times)Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife...
BMFin 0 #3 November 12, 2007 Canon site says: 430: "Recycling Time Approx. 0.1 to 3.7 seconds (AA-size Alkaline Batteries)/0.1 to 2 seconds (AA-size Ni-MH batteries)" 580: "Approx. 0.1 to 6 seconds, with fresh AA-size alkaline batteries" So does this mean if I use fresh batteries it wont be that much slower or maby not slower at all ?? Zee 0 #5 November 13, 2007 Get the 580. Every time I've picked up a less powerful version of a flash to save some bucks, I came to regret it as soon as I mounted it on my camera helmet. If you're planning on using it for skydiving you'll need the more powerful output. Spend the extra bucks now, or spend even more later.... If it's within your budget get as much flash power as possible ."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
Laszloimage 0 #7 November 13, 2007 Zee is 100% right. You can save a few bucks at the purchase, but you'll be sorry when you miss the shot because the flash "wasn't ready" yet. I just bought my 2nd 580EX so I can use them together with less power each but resulting the same total output. This way the recycle time is lot faster. Of course in this case the helmet gets heavier though... but I don't always have to use both of them together. -Laszlo-
BMFin 0 #8 November 13, 2007 Damnit.. I was kinda hoping someone would have assured me the 430 is enough.. I guess I have to really start considering the 580 then.. Its just that its double the price of a 430. (in Hong Kong 230USD or 460USD) and in the paper it isnt really that much more powerful or faster.. Thanks for the info anyway !! DSE 5 #9 November 13, 2007 You're saying the 580 is only 230 USD in HongKong? Please tell me that's so, I want to buy a second 580, and I'm going to be in HongKong in a couple weeks. B&H has the 580 for $360.00 after Canon rebate. To save $130.00, I'll wait til I'm in HongKong.
BMFin 0 #10 November 13, 2007 I tried to say that the 430EX is 230 USD and the 580EX is 460USD in hong kong. These prices are besed on this website. (BTW. products on that site are cheaper if you keep the currency as HKD. They seem to have different prices for people who want to see the USD prices ) I doubt you get any warranty either if you buy from HK.. (other than lenses) Im also going in hong kong in a month. I have heard there are some good second hand camera stores too.. Maby worth checking out..
