efs4ever 3 #1 November 13, 2007 Just had a tape GNARLED by an old camera. Need to see a schematic of a Mini DV cassette so I can re-assemble the one I took apart to get the tape straightened. Springs and stuff flew everywhere. Only file I could find was .RAR, and I can't read it; even with the RAR extractor I found. PDF would be nice.Russell M. davelepka 4 #2 November 13, 2007 You could take another one apart, more carefully, and note what goes where. You should be able to re-assemble them both. I think.
efs4ever 3 #3 November 13, 2007 Actually, I found several services who do the job for about $25.00. I think I'll send it off to one. Anybody have experience with cassette repair services?? I've done the old "take another one apart" routine and had mixed results. Mini DV almost requires BRAIN SURGEON skills to get the stuff in place. Russell M. Like anything else from Japan packed it a box.I'd let someone else reassemble it too, unless you've got some micro clamps. Not something I've ever done with expectations of using the shell again. BGill 0 #5 November 13, 2007 I had my helmet go in once and was able to get a busted up tape out of it. I used one of the repair services and the tape works fine now. If any part of the film is damaged, though, they splice it off so only undamaged film is left (I think that's how they did it, at least, since you can see what appears to be splicing marks on the film).
