Quirky Batteries!

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I use non- (Sony) - spec NP90 batteries in my HC3 and have noticed that when I have a swiap around, the camera will not switch on if I am using a battery I have not used for some time.

I end up having to remove the battery and put it back in several times plus repeated attempts to switch on. Eventually and for no obvious reason the power suddenly kicks in and all is fine from then on.

Anybody familiar with this?

Regards

If it happens to be an Energizer battery, I had a similar problem with mine. I found there's a "recall" relating to the Infolithium memory, and they sent me a new one, which works flawlessly.

(If it's not an Energizer, ignore this.)

I made some attempts saving some bucks on batteries for still and video cameras, phones, computers, etc. in the past and every time they sucked for one reason or another and I went with the original batteries.
Shure, the original batteries are much more expensive, but my experience has shown that they are worth the extra money....

There frequently are problems with the memory system on third-party batteries. Due to flame-ups in Australia and England, Sony will only warrant their professional cameras if you're using their brand-name batteries. I don't know what the consumer division does.
I have a third-party battery one of our vidiots gave me, it reports 75% full no matter whether it's totally empty or completely charged. It gives no warning, just shuts off. One of these days I'll actually drop it off at the recycling station.
