freefly160 0 #1 November 24, 2007 What video camera is recommended? I am looking at the Sony HDR-CX7, or going with something like a PC109. Is the quality of recording of the HD worth the extra cost? I live in Germany and with current exchange rates and a wife who also skydives; jumping is getting too expensive to pay out of pocket. Ten skydives equals about $400!!! Thanks for any advice..... DSE 5 #2 November 24, 2007 Michael, if you have a reasonably fast computer (quad core), AVCHD (The format the CX7 produces) is easy to edit. If you have a slower, older computer (single core) then AVCHD is painful to edit. HD is a much better image quality even when downsampled only to SD. But it's more costly for the camera, although it's also more future-looking. At the moment, you'll not find a more lightweight camera package, that's for certain. freefly160 0 #3 November 24, 2007 Spot, thanks for the advice. Currently I have an Acer laptop at home, but I am looking at getting a new computer and will keep in mind to look for a computer with quad core, no matter which Sony I decide on. Is there any difficulties or special requirements to attach the HRD cameras to a helmut? I'm looking at the Cookies MVX w/ cutaway. Thanks again. DSE 5 #4 November 24, 2007 If I wear my CX7, it mounts to a rather unconventional Bogen plate, which is the same plate found on my cheap tripods, since I have a dozen or more sleds. I don't recommend it, however. Mounting one of the HD camcorders on a sidemount helmet is a little tougher, they're kinda wide. The CX7 isn't as wide as its HDV counterparts. I haven't jumped the Cookie helmet, for some reason they're not keen on sending out review models like other manufacturers do, but their products are top-notch, and Jason is great about customer service. freefly160 0 #5 November 25, 2007 So I can expect some work to attach the camera. Just what I loveI see what you mean about the width. I went back and looked at the product dimensions; 6" wide!! I guess it would be better as a top mount, and easier. I plan to take stills as well.....to film tandems. Maybe I will purchase a PC to start.... I already own a Canon XTi. Your thoughts?
