freefly160 0 #1 November 25, 2007 Can anyone tell me if the new cameras, like the Sony HDR-CX7 can switch formats between PAL and NTSC. I'm going to start my video career in Germany, but I will be moving back to the US in about a year and a half. I'd like to avoid buying a camera to turn around and sell it a year later if possible. Yes but the quality degrades and it takes a long time and you need a good computer to do it otherwise it takes much longer Do a search here for ways to convert PAL > NTSC and NTSC > PAL. ciel bleu, Saskia
mrwrong 0 #5 November 25, 2007 Correct me if I'm wrong but, didn't DSE write something awhile ago about high def cameras having different format other than PAL / NTSC? I have a HDR-HC5 camera and I record in HD mode, however since I don't have either a HD compatible burner nor a HD TV then I just create a PAL project in my editing software. I could just as well have chosen to create a NTSC if that standard would have been the one used in Sweden where I live.“The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once! DSE 5 #6 November 25, 2007 There are several "prosumer" cams that do NTSC and PAL, but no small format DV cams that do both AFAIK. HD has no "NTSC" or "PAL" designates, although some manufacturers mistakenly identify the streams as such. The *only* difference in "NTSC" and "PAL" HD is the framerate. No frame size, no color space, nada.
