m1keymike 0 #1 December 3, 2007 I am looking at starting to fly camera in the near future. I have a canon 30d and am not sure what lens to buy. I intend to film both tandem and possiblt CRW so if possible would like a lens suitable for both. Any help/advice would be really useful.
Zee 0 #2 December 3, 2007 The Sigma 15mm is always a good buy for skydiving. With the crop factor it's the equivalent of a standard 24mm lens and it's very crisp and clear. It runs around 5 bills and it's worth every penny. Action©Sports
PhreeZone 20 #3 December 3, 2007 Tandems? Wide is better. 15mm is a pretty good spot to be at if you are flying from grip range to 6 feet back. Any further and you are wanting closer to a 20 mm lens on the digital bodies. CRW? You could be a ways back so a 15 mm will have them being specks unless you crop the heck out of the photos. Issue is if you get a longer focal length lens you have to be sighted in much better or else the people will be off center all the time. Start with a 15 MM and either fly close or get a longer lens and fly further away, thats going to epend on what you are used to flying.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

matt3sa 0 #5 December 18, 2007 When I perform a search for 15mm lens, I get fisheyes. Are all 15mm lenses fisheyed?
jtval 0 #6 December 18, 2007 the Sigma 15mm is a fisheye but unless you are by the EDGE of the photo its all good. if you wanna see some examples go to the link in my signature line and look at the tandemsMy photos My Videos
Zee 0 #7 December 18, 2007 No, they're not. But the Sigma is. If you're going to use it on a DSLR the fisheye effect is all but removed though.. This one was taken with a Sigma 15mm on a standard 35mm body This one was taken with the same 15mm on a DSLR Action©Sports
