crashtested 0 #1 December 10, 2007 I have a very unsuitible snowboarding camera helmet, which has to many snags to be used for Skydiving. Does anyone has experiance in both filiming snow and air i would apriciate your help or advice on a new camera helmet. that would be suitible for both sports!!! Also I can't locate the rules on wearing a camera helmet with no camera in. Snags etc is half the reasaon why c licence prevails, is wearing cameraless still allowed however? a cookie for the best awnser!!!
drdive 0 #2 December 10, 2007 Look at the 2K Composites FX2 or FX3 - no snag points, and very suitable to jump withou the camera in IMO. I plan on using mine for skiing this winter. ( I got word mine was shipped and should be here in a couple of days :-) )"We saved your gear. Now you can sell it when you get out of the hospital and upsize!!" PhreeZone 20 #4 December 10, 2007 No skydiving helmet is crash rated, video helmets are even worse and not only do they offer no protection in an crash they will probally make injuries worse. Regulations for jumping with a camera in or out tend to be the same. The BPA has a lot more details on this for you since they tend to be more conservitive then other places. Your CCI will need to see it no matter what.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
strop45 0 #5 December 11, 2007 I've used my skydiving helmet/camera setup (Cookie with hc-40) on the snow - works well. As pointed out, its not crash tested, but then neither's my head and I often ski with no helmet. The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits." -- Albert Einstein

I would have a chat with the CCI there (NLPC?) before buying anything as they will undoubtedly have an opinion, which may well be that you will not be allowed to jump a camera helmet with less than a C licence (even empty - because it would be so easy for you to just add the camera without anyone really noticing). And no, its not really all about the snags, its about the distractions... there are a couple of good posts on the subject.*************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus. shunkka 0 #7 December 11, 2007 hi if u want to film in both enviroments a good skydiving helmet will work fine on the slopes too if you want protection... than the only solution (i think) is to have a good snowboard helmet with a bullet cam mounted on it as other guys already said... skydiving/camera helmets dont offer to much protection about the rulez... on my DZ for example... if u have a box u can fly it without camera in... if you hava a L bracket u CANT fly without the camera in ------------------------- "jump, have fun, pull"
drudchen 0 #8 December 11, 2007 On a related note - I've been thinking of taking my rawa with pc1000 camera for a few runs down the snow covered slopes :) I'm just a little worried - is there a change the cold is going to damage my camera? What about those artificial snowmaking blowers, should i be trying to avoid those? (mind you, the helmet seals perfectly with the wide angle lens, so the snow is not going to get into the camera box)
strop45 0 #9 December 12, 2007 Cold didn't seem to a problem. I guess it depends on what the air temp is. dragon2 2 #10 December 12, 2007 Cold is bad for your batteries so keep a spare one in your pocket where it's warm. Also be careful when going from heat (room) to cold (outside) and back as this causes condensation. ciel bleu, Saskia

You need to lean forward into your boots more, don't worry you won't fall out of them, but it'll give you more control!! What is the setup on the camera and helmet?? footage was ok it looked like a bullet cam but i could be wrong??
ReyNier 0 #12 December 13, 2007 Try this: http://www.tonfly.com/CONVERTER_828527.html Angle of cam can be changed in a second 5º up/down. Film handheld when wanted, click it on and of when needed. For exact mounting brackets for your cam: info@rcb-lab.com. On wet days uw cover (eg www.ewamarine.com) !!!. Closed camera cases can be a problem with an uw case installed. Bracket more flexible. Enjoy your winter
