Info on Presige containers?

Recommended Posts

It was originally mfg'd by John Stanford's Adventure Loft, which he sold to John Storrie years ago... John Stanford and his wife Sarah both jump them (or did last time I saw them, about a year ago), so they must think they're ok rigs! ;)

Here's John Storrie's contact info, he may be able to tell you more...

Prestige is an '80s vintage rig that looks like a cross between a Para-Flite Swift and a 2-pin Mirage. It is more refined than the Swift system and has more graceful lines than the Mirage. Never sold in very large numbers, but it is a decent rig. The real question is whether the harness is the right size for you, and that can only be answered with you wearing the harness.

I bought a used rig with a Prestige container. It came as an ROL, but I had it converted over to a BOC for about $50. So far (and I've only got about 5 jumps on it) I'm very happy with it. It's housing a Falcon 215, which for me has plenty of performance right now. I'd say that if you can get it at a good price and it's in good condition, go for it. I can tell you that my Prestige container uses a dual pin reserve system, has velcro riser covers, and the main bag has a velcro strip down the center (which is supposed to make getting the chute into the bag easier--I guess). Not sure if these "features" are standard for all Prestige containers, but just thought I'd tell you what's on mine.

Hope that helps!
Wayne

I used to have a Prestige. It was very comfortable, but somewhat bulky. I let someone borrow it and he had a reserve ride. He threw away the handle and we had to order a new one. They don't make Prestige containers anymore, so my rigger had to call someone (not sure who) and have one made for my rig. It was a hassle. I no longer jump that container (I upgraded to a Javelin) but I still think it's a good container. I got mine really cheap before they quit making them. Most of the comments I ever heard were "What's that?" and "I've never heard of that." To more specifically answer your question, the pro is that it's comfortable. The con is that they don't make them anymore so if you have to replace the handles it may be a headache and take longer to get you back in the air.
