lax4lyfe15 0 #1 April 8, 2008 Is there anyway to ensure that quick release screws don't come undone, without locktight because I am nervous to use quick releases for both.....I have a goldmember for my stills and am thinking of getting one for the video also. Also, what are some of the best brand quick releases.
newshooter12 0 #2 April 8, 2008 I bought lock washers and locking type nuts with the nylon inserts that snug up the bolt/machine screws when they get tightened. Do a search of quick releases on the forum to see some of the different kinds. Matt
pilotdave 0 #3 April 8, 2008 I had problems with the allen screw on my Quick Shoe coming lose (especially when I handle the camera while it's attached to the helmet). My solution was to stick an allen wrench in my helmet under the padding. I check to make sure the camera doesn't move in the plane... if it does, I can quickly tighten it up. Haven't found it lose in the plane yet (since I started carrying the wrench), but I'm a lot more careful to check it on the ground now. The non-permanent loctite is probably an even better idea. PhreeZone 20 #4 April 8, 2008 You can use the ones from skydiving companies like Bonehead, Cookie, etc and they are ok. I've been pointed to some of the high end photo plates and their releases and its just not even a fair match anymore. I LOVE my Really Right Stuff plates and clamps. I feel more secure with them then I did with my Stroboframe plates. Granted the plate is about $50 for a still and another $125 for the clampbut once you see the quality and the ruggedness of it its a no brainer in my opinion if you are going to be putting a $600-1200 still camera and a $300+ lens on your head. Look at the Really Right Stuff, Kirk Photo, Manfrotto, etc if you want really high end quality (but pricey too) Stroboframe works and is fairly cheap at $55 a clamp and generic plate and then another $15 for a video plate or $10 for an anti-twist plate for stills. I also went with the RRS system since it plays really nicely with the Tripod/ball head combo I am using for stills outside of skydiving.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Laszloimage 0 #5 April 8, 2008 100% agree! -Laszlo- ps. you can find those things cheaper on ebay, but you have to be lucky to make a real deal.
