Foster 0 #1 May 13, 2008 Searched all over and cant find any info on removing it... I have 5 screws out and the retaining plug around the strap out but even with force I cant find a way to remove it. I'd rather not cut it...
DSE 5 #2 May 13, 2008 AFAIK you'll have to cut it. I've gotten the entire side (9 screws) and the front barrel cover off, and still couldn't get it. If it's like earlier cams, it's molded in place inside the back of the housing.
jtval 0 #3 May 13, 2008 Sure, make it easy. I would have suggested using a hammer first. My photos My Videos

jimmytavino 16 #5 May 13, 2008 i reluctantly removed the hand strap from my HC-3.... BUT rather than cutting it , way back at the point where it hits the casing,,, I DID leave about 1/2 an inch of webbing remaining... This will allow for the Re-Attachment of the hand strap... by simply stitching it, back onto the small tab... Cut it right at the casing,,,, and there's little chance of a re-connect. it can be re stitched , even by hand.... and then that connection can be undone, with a little time and a seam ripper...... for the rare times when the camcorder is used for video projects, other than skydiving.. jmy

Thanks for the idea! And thanks for the replies everyone...
tillamookjohn 0 #7 May 15, 2008 I don't know how the strap on the CX7 is configured, but on my old pc101 I opened the velcroed pad that has the Sony logo and unfolded it flat against the side of the camera. It fits in a D-box just fine and I didn't have to cut anythingI'd like to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my ass. Mustang69 0 #8 May 15, 2008 I am curious about the need for removing the strap. I have a Cookie box on the way for my CX7 and I hope it will fit with the strap attached...? If the camera is not in a box, maybe the strap beats against the camera and causes shudder...? Anyway, rather than sew the strap back together, or trust velcro for regular use, I'd try sewing on hooks and eyes like the ones on a bra strap. The camera will not fit in the cookie box with the strap. I am going to figure out a hook and latch connection as well. I cut my strap at the point where it is sewn to the ring on the pad thingy. I have cut the strap off every camera I owned and never regretted it. There is no real need for it and it is just a convenience item. No wuffo is going to want to buy your camera after you put a few hundred jumps on it anyways and any skydiver you sell it to will probably just cut the strap off.~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. frost 1 #11 May 21, 2008 Dont remove it, you never know when you might need it Cut the padding/velcro off, leave the bare minimum of a strap and stitch it together. It'll be thin enough to fit in the box. I have successfully modified my PC1000 and CX7 like that. No problems with fitting the first one in a Rawa box or second in the Cookie box. That is pretty much what I did... working on a clip to connect the one piece to the pad...
