oldgit 0 #1 May 14, 2008 I am about to get an HDV camera and I have been reading lots of different views on both cameras and while it’s nice to have the latest camera HC9 it would seem that OIS is a problem. Is the HC5 with EIS a better bet even though its slightly lower quality? And when you edit the footage would you notice any difference? John
DSE 5 #2 May 14, 2008 You'll predominantly notice quality diffs in low light. HC9 has a slightly better encoder, and a lot more customizeable/manual features, but for skydiving...they're vey similar. OIS can be an issue for some fliers, so you might want to stick with the HC5.
oldgit 0 #3 May 14, 2008 Yeah I read the review you posted and as the camera will be used for skydiving only I see no problems with low light. I’m not bothered about the quality of stills either as I jump with a DSLR so it looks like the HC5 would suit me best. Thanks for the help John
beowulf 1 #4 May 14, 2008 I went with the HC5 and now have about 70 jumps with it. Most of the jumps have been freefly with a few RW jumps. So far I have been very happy with the video quality. I just bought a Blu-ray disk player and have wrote some skydiving video to DVD's in AVCHD format at 8mbps bitrate. I can say that I am very happy with the way the look on my TV. Costyn 1 #5 May 15, 2008 Yup, I second that. I've recently bought an HC5 and I'm very happy with it... done wingsuit and freefly and it's done its job perfectly. The only downside is (for non-skydiving) is the lack of a focus ring or button (which the HC7 and 9 have I think), but using the spot focus is an acceptable substitute. PhreeZone 20 #6 May 15, 2008 With the HC3 you can use the dial on the side to set focus, does the HC5 have that?Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Costyn 1 #7 May 15, 2008 Nope, it doesn't have a dial unfortunately.Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
