frost 1 #2 May 20, 2008 Do you REALLY need the cameye button functionality? What camera do you have? (most) Rawa boxes allow direct access to the camcorder button, why do you want to mangle your helmet to install another one? Get a Hypeye mini - it's brighter, smaller, cheaper, more solid and no drilling for the extra button
LouDiamond 1 #3 May 20, 2008 RAWA's are easy to install a cam-eye on. You don't need to drill anything, just route the cable from the camera box to the back of the helmet. Gaffer the cable and the round control button to the back of the helmet. The remainder of cable can be routed under the padding in the helmet and the light comes out the top by the forehead which can be attached to your ringsite or simply gaffered/velcro'd down."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING

darrenspooner 0 #5 May 21, 2008 Thanks for taking the time to reply guys. Is the tight fit in the camera box going to cause any probs with the LANC plug? Do I need to shave the plastic off to preserve it in the long term?
Bill_K 0 #6 May 22, 2008 QuoteThanks for taking the time to reply guys. Is the tight fit in the camera box going to cause any probs with the LANC plug? Do I need to shave the plastic off to preserve it in the long term? I ended up notching inside the helmet and camera box so that my LANC would not keep the box from closing. (I can take some pictures this evening when I get home and post them.) I then routed the cable under the pads on the inside and mounted the button in the back like the pictures posted above. The led routes out the front to where I can see it. The only thing I have to worry about now is other jumpers that like to play with the button. Which I've come to expect. :D I've got some funny in flight video at times...
Icon134 0 #7 May 22, 2008 When I used a RAWA I cut a hole from the inside of the helmet to pass the plug through to the box (I was jumping an HC32 and that camera has the plug on the inside of the helmet.) I probably have pictures of it somewhere if I can find them I'll post them... although you might dig through the Post your Camera Helmet Thread...Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife... I jump an HC32 currently. Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done for what I want and enjoy.
darrenspooner 0 #9 May 24, 2008 Thanks guys. Got sorted now. I drilled through the box to get the LANC plg thought. Routed the wiring under the padding and put to switch near the audible pocket on the right hand side. Works fine, helmet feels no different.
