davadikian 1 #1 June 11, 2008 So I just got a new RAWA with an enclosure for my HC-40, so far Im pleased with it. Up until now I have always just used an L bracket to mount my camera but I have a question concerning the enclosure. The shroud that covers the lens is quite long, I have a low profile liquid 3 and it sits way back in the shroud. Is it customary to cut the shroud back and how far do you go back? Do you leave some for some sun/physical protection?? Or just cut it right back to the edge of the w/a lense? I guess this seems silly now that it is typed in front of me but once I cut into it its done, and Ive had enough "Oh shit, I shoulda double checked before I cut" moments I thought I would do this one right... Thanks for your replies.
darrenspooner 0 #2 June 11, 2008 I didn't have to cut my shroud. However, in researching camera helmets online I found a few people who had to shave back the shroud because it was framing or encroaching into the picture. I have just been messing around with my helmet putting in cameye and it is easy to gentle grind with one of those dremmel tool things. I just touched up the rough edges with gloss black paint and it looks fine.
ZZTopless 0 #3 June 11, 2008 My boyfriend and I each have the same setup - Rawa with HC and liquid3 lens. We cut off the shroud entirely using a spiral saw, then covered the raw edges with clear nail polish and a bit of gaffers. It was the only way we could get the low profile liquid3 lens to fit into the clam shell without forcing it and having to worry about strain on the hinge. Yes, seems silly to cut off the protection for the lens, but it worked and no problems yet 200+ jumps later on the two helmets. The lens only sticks out about 1cm from the camera box even after cutting off the shroud. I attached some pictures if that helps. Zabrina
