iambeav2 0 #1 June 12, 2008 So I did a search and found nothing really helpful. My PC1000's lanc port became "loose" at Skyfest, which was a fucking bummer. Had to turn the cam on in the plane before exit, and film all the way down. I've tried doing some online research to find repair shops and stuff and found nothing, and the local camera store won't get back to me whether they can fix it and for what price. Does anyone either repair, or have access/recommendations to a good/great/trustworthy camera repair business/person. Please help ASAP, I'm out of a job w/o my Cameye capabilities!!!!...it's not the fact that you don't appreciate what you have until it's gone...it's the fact that you don't appreciate what you have until someone appreciates it for you! iambeav2 0 #3 June 12, 2008 Yup, but with my type of box, that's not a smart idea. Thanks, but not the answer to the question I asked!! ...it's not the fact that you don't appreciate what you have until it's gone...it's the fact that you don't appreciate what you have until someone appreciates it for you! PharmerPhil 0 #4 June 12, 2008 QuoteYup, but with my type of box, that's not a smart idea Sounds like the box is not a smart idea... I had the LANC port on one of my cameras fail this year. Downloaded the exploded service diagrams and got scared. The way mine was put together (HVR-A1U) you basically had to disassemble the entire camera to get at the port (with lots of fragile, flexible ribbon-type circuit boards). I brought it to a highly recommended local shop and their estimate was $500-$600 for repair. I passed on having the repair done. Everything else on the camera works fine. Hopefully your camera is better (cheaper) for repair, but I can't imagine any shop doing a repair like this for less than a couple hundred. BTW, on my helmet, I have a small length of cable going from the LANC port to another jack that my Hypeye plugs into. When I disconnect the Hypeye (which I do everytime I edit) I am putting wear on a cheap piece of cable rather than my camera. I would love to get a similar short cable for my A/V port. bomb420 1 #5 June 12, 2008 What I have found is the ground signal cracks on the PCB carrying the LANC connector. It really depends on how ballsy you are. You will have to take the whole camera apart to reach this connector, then scrape off the conformal coating, and solder a wire to bridge the crack. Then remember where all the screws go. It can be done, but it really depends on if its worth it to you. Edit: I talked about this in another post a while ago. sbhesq 0 #6 June 12, 2008 Can't you use the new Hypeye that connects via the d-link? That would eliminate the need for the lanc port.
bomb420 1 #7 June 12, 2008 Not on the PC1000. It will only work on newer cameras with the AV Remote connection. Pretty much cameras produced within the last 2years. Here is the compatibility listHYPOXIC
iambeav2 0 #8 June 12, 2008 It's a TonFly box, and is basically just like the Cookie boxes for my camera, except it doesn't have a tripod screw or holes cut in the back. If I can't get the camera fixed, then sure I can do that, but I really like the fact that my camera is completely surrounded w/ no holes in the box. Now the tripod screw might be a good idea any way but... w/e. Anyone else got a personal reference for repairmen?...it's not the fact that you don't appreciate what you have until it's gone...it's the fact that you don't appreciate what you have until someone appreciates it for you! PharmerPhil 0 #11 June 13, 2008 QuoteSony will fix it for about $250-300. You know, I keep hearing this quote, but I can never seem to find this info online. When I looked into it for my camera, all I could find were similar $550-$600 options. Do you have a specific link that shows this option?
freefalljason 0 #12 June 13, 2008 It looks like Sony has gone up on their flat rate. (must be because of gas prices) I looked at the price for my PC101 last year and it was $310 now it is showing $431 (plus any applicable tax). It also shows the same for a PC1000. I guess I should have sent mine in sooner and saved $120! Here is the link. http://eservice.sony.com/webrma/web/index.do Blue Skies, Jason

PhreeZone 20 #14 June 13, 2008 Hell, my HC3 off eBAY was less then that. Sony really is trying to make their camera's toss away electronics anymore huh?Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
