BirdWoman 0 #1 June 17, 2008 I just wanted to post this for everybody to know so you don't get scammed when considering purchasing a still camera lens, mainly a Canon. It would suck to not get the lens you think you are buying. Today I purchased a Canon 10-22 lens from B&H Photo after several attempts to buy one cheaper from online camera stores. One store, Onewayphoto.com, told me that there are TWO EF-S lens...one with a plastic mount and one with a metal mount. This raised a flag so I hung up and called CanonUSA to verify. The lens specialist told me that there is indeed only one true Canon EF-S lens and it has a metal mount. After telling him where I found this other lens, he told me to be weary of online stores that offer lens for cheaper. He said that they have a list of several stores that offer these fake lens; because they are not genuine Canon, the warranty that comes with them are not honored by Canon. He suggested B&H, where I have done a lot of purchases in the past. When I went to B&H they had two lenses listed for a $30 price difference. I called to ask what the difference was. The guy I talked to said that the cheaper one is a "gray market" and not warrantied directly from Canon but from B&H. The more expensive one is from Canon USA and warrantied through Canon. I opted to go for the genuine one and purchased a 3year service plan for $83 (it will cover ANY damage to the lens regardless of how it got damaged. I asked if, in the event my helmet came off and went in if it would be covered, and he said yes). Long story short, buyer beware when buying an expensive lens from an online store...even if it saves you money. BirdWoman 0 #5 June 18, 2008 CanonUSA retail is now $899. I got mine from B&H for $710 plus $83 for the 3year service agreement and $20 for 2nd day air shipping. It's well worth every penny."I don't know where it is that I'm going, but wherever it is there I'll be!" --quoted by me
pilotdave 0 #6 June 18, 2008 I just happened to order one a couple hours before you posted. $699 at amazon.com and free shipping. I also had $75 worth of gift certificates (thanks to the amazon.com visa card), so I ended up with a pretty nice deal. I like B&H, but I do most of my big purchases at amazon.
