markovwgti 0 #1 July 6, 2008 What do you guys think about this lens for freeflying...and probably tandems sometime in my life...too wide or perfect? BTW i can get it for 600 bucks cash right now no tax!! For a Canon Digital XTI
dragon2 2 #2 July 6, 2008 It's way too wide for me, also the distortion is really pronounced, not my favorite for showing people's faces. Keep in mind you have to fly inches from your tandem to get fullframe pictures, with a 15mm or 16mm this distance is 1ft-3ft for nice filled pictures. I can't really see this lens working for freefly, unless you fly it for inside pictures and even then you have to fly very close. But I'm not much of a freeflyer so maybe someone else does use this or a similar lens with success. BTW if you jump Nikon, don't buy this lens get the 10.5 mm nikkor fisheye as it is much better. For canon, you have little choice. ciel bleu, Saskia
VictorSuvorov 0 #3 July 7, 2008 you have to be very close, 1 foot away give or take. personally i like it, you get a unique looking close up combined with wide background not an every jump lens, for sure.
Cashmanimal 0 #4 July 8, 2008 Unless you can stay within that very, very short range that is preferred for this camera, most of your photos will be useless. Distortion and such will make it so that even cropping and enlarging portions of the photo will look like crap. But if I had the $$, I'd buy it. Fun lens to have around, for sure. It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
The111 1 #5 July 8, 2008 If I was a tandem student on my first jump I would not want a camera that close to my face the whole time. Skydiving is a visual sport, back off and let him SEE the planet from the air.www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Skydiving is a visual sport, back off and let him SEE the planet from the air. Hear hear! That is exactly why I jump at Sony .6. That and it gives a bit of a buffer zone in case there is an unexpected tandem deployment before normal pull altitude (students are known to pull at any time). Never want to be -that- close and in front of the pair at pull time. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
