linestretch 0 #1 August 4, 2008 Anyone know what this is? I took a long exposure last night of the stars. And when I opened it, I had the stars that streaked, and then dots that aren't streaked. I don't recall seeing that many planes fly overhead. I'm hoping it's not my sensor. The camera is a 10D. edit....forgot the pic. And thanx (phree's post). Didn't know about hot pixels.my pics & stuff!
PhreeZone 20 #2 August 4, 2008 Its probally hot pixels on the sensor. During long exposure you can get "hot pixels" that will manifest themselves as white spots. These hot pixels can be reduced to a point in the firmware on the camera but this is a issue unique to digital, film never had this as an issue. The only fix is to correct them in post since they exist on every type of sensor out there (Nikon, Sony, Canon, etc all have this issue) but tend to only manifest during longer exposures. Older sensors had the issue a bit more frequently but even the Mark III has been reported to have hot pixels appear from time to time on longer shots.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
pilotdave 0 #3 August 4, 2008 Does the 10D have long exposure noise reduction? Doesn't seem to help THAT much on the 400D, but it does help. Dave
Bengel 0 #4 August 4, 2008 I'm not sure, cause I'm really a rookie in DSLR. But I think this could help. http://www.picturecode.com/I'm a British nanny, and I'm dangerous!
linestretch 0 #5 August 4, 2008 I don't ever recall seeing anything like that. Is it the custom functions menu?my pics & stuff!
pilotdave 0 #6 August 4, 2008 Yeah, custom function 2 on the 400D. Dave
