Having a Problem with my Canon Rebel XT

Recommended Posts

I know this camera is used widely in skydiving so I wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue.

On Saturday when I turned my camera on (fully charged battery) the camera wouldn't turn on and my CF light did not register a card. I finally was able to get it to turn on (took battery out for about 20 seconds). It did this several times over the course of Saturday.

On Sunday I got the same issue, except at one point it actually froze and was still "On" when I turned my camera off. This happened in the plane. I thought I fixed it but in freefall it stopped taking photos right after the exit shots. I can no longer rely on the camera until i figure this thing out. I'm not even sure where to start.

First thing I'm going to do is check the firmware and make sure I have the latest. I'm asking here to just get a jump start on what to check and obviously I'll contact Canon. I bought the camera second hand from a buddy who used it very sparingly. I have jumped this camera for over a month with no problems. The only thing that has changed recently was I bought 2 512 CF cards. Thanks in advance for any insight or help.

See my reply in the other post about the same issue, I think this is what you are experiencing. In short, it happens when the camera goes into power save mode with a remote attached. Disable power save mode (not sure if that's the exact name) or don't allow it to reach that time.
