I was thinking about a 40D soon but this is not much more... HHHuummmmmmm... now what do I do.. The only real difference seems to be UDMA card compatability and a 15.1MB images and expanded ISO options..

Spot, have you seen the 50D i your hands yet?? Is there something that makes it stand out over the 40D other then the few items I noted? The difference from my XT to the XTi was not enough to go buy one but I am looking at the 40D now and this adds to my options.

Canon's familes are really now 4 different families:

XXX(X)D - (300,350,400,450,1000) - Consumer level SLR, 1.6 crop
XXD (10,20,30,40,50) - Prosumer level SLR, 1.6 crop.
XD (5D) - Prosumer/Professional level SLR, Full Frame sensor
XDXXX(s) (1D,1DII,1DIIs,1DIII,1DIIIs) - Professional level, 1.3 crop

Each level adds more price but you get more features and power at each level too. The Full Frame and 1.3 crop sensors can't use the EF-S mount lenses.

Look for a 5D replacement soon.;)

I saw this cam, and it's imaging isn't any better than the 40, but it's got HDMI and slideshow in it. So...come down off a jump, plug into HDMI, start the slideshow while Xferring images to a DVD. Students LOVE looking at pix on a bigscreen...and it keeps them occupied while you're packing, editing, whatever.
UDMA is great too, but it's not *that* big a deal, since the camera isn't shooting any faster than the 40.
If I was looking to buy in the next 3 months, I'd get a 50. If I owned a 40 now, I'd stick with it. If I needed a body tomorrow, obviously...I'd get a 40.
