Docfriar 0 #1 October 14, 2008 I want to get into still Photography and I have the option between 3 cameras. The question I have which one would you recommend and where can I find the necessary Blow, Bite or Tongue switch.(Cannon Bite or Tongue no problem but the Blow switch ??) The cameras are: Sony Alpha 350 with 18-55 mm lens and 55-200 lens Nikon D80 with 18-55 mm lens Canon 450D with 18-55 mm lens
pilotdave 0 #2 October 14, 2008 To me, it's a no brainer. 450D with the kit lens and whatever kinda switch you want. Dave
DSE 5 #3 October 14, 2008 What Dave said. There are switches made for all of the Canon cameras, or it's quite easy to custom-make the parts as well. There are at least 20 posts in this forum about making your own if you choose to not buy pre-made from Conceptus or Laszlo.
Docfriar 0 #4 October 14, 2008 Thanks for the comments. The easiest would be the Canon. But now to the Cameras ? Would Canon still be the best of the 3 ??
pilotdave 0 #5 October 14, 2008 Each is going to have its advantages and disadvantages. Personally I'd eliminate the Sony first. Once you start buying lenses, you kind of get stuck with a particular brand or else you need to upgrade everything. You'll probably want to be stuck with nikon or canon. You can read the reviews and specs for each camera. Bottom line is that they're both going to take really nice pictures but the 450D is quite a bit smaller and lighter and switches are easily available. The nikon has its strengths and might be a good choice if you plan to use it on the ground a lot... something to consider. But if you're mainly buying a camera for skydiving, the 450D just has the advantage. Dave

Icon134 0 #7 October 15, 2008 Like Dave said... I'd go with the canon or the nikon... I realize you're not in the US... but you can probably find Bite and tounge switches like the ones found in the paragear cataloge in europe. http://www.paragear.com/templates/parachutes.asp?group=455&level=1 I personally use/prefer a blow switch... and use P/N L1337 from the paragear cataloge... but it requires a bit more work to make it as you have to cut an existing cable (I have used cables from skytools to make switches in the past)Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife...
