DSE 5 #2 October 23, 2008 You cannot use these in freefall via the HDD system. You MUST use a memstick. I've heard nothing of problems at "low temperatures." Only altitude, and this is true with any HDD camcorder/system, including iPods. The HypEye Pro D works fine with these camcorders. I'm unaware of CamEye having a D connector? MagicLou 0 #4 October 25, 2008 Doug, Do you know what form factor HDD Sony is using in these cameras and is it possible to upgrade them? Seagate manufactures an extreme series hard disk. http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/consumer_electronics/ee25_series/ http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=null&vgnextoid=a4084e60105bc110VgnVCM100000f5ee0a0aRCRD - 2.5" form factor - Operating ambient temperature of –30°C to +85°C - Operating altitude of up to 16,400 ft. or 5000 meters - Operating vibration of 2 Gs, 5 to 500 Hz, linear swept sine - Operating shock of 150 Gs at 11 ms, 300 Gs \at 2 ms No I don't work for Seagate. DSE 5 #5 October 25, 2008 Nope, I don't know whose HDD's they're using, but I'll assume they are Toshiba drives, since they use Toshiba drives in their professional HDD cams. Don't know if you can hack/refit or not, but can't imagine for the life of my why you'd want to when there are other cameras that serve the function just fine, and I'd imagine the cost of the Seagate drives is very high. Add that to the cost of the camera, labor to swap it out...you've got a very expensive system that may well be inferior to what else is available. Why bother?
