Jessica 0 #1 June 19, 2003 Trivial question: I thought the bottle cap was screwed tight, but the next time I opened up my toolbox everything was sticky. Do you guys keep your silicone wrapped in something else? Am I the only one this has happened to? I'm afraid to leave the bottle with the rest of my stuff now.Skydiving is for cool people only

Jessica 0 #3 June 19, 2003 Yeah, but then if it spills you've got a bag full of sticky crap. I'm trying to figure out a practical way to carry it around without relying on a cheap plastic bottle not to spill. I've got a tiny glass pot with a tight metal screw-on lid...I'm going to try using that.Skydiving is for cool people only
dterrick 0 #4 June 19, 2003 ...but then the glass could break and you'd have a sticky mess of goo with shards of sharp glass in it . What kind of silicone is this? ... like tent waterproofing stuff ... engine assembly type goo ... bathtub caulk? What about putting the plastic jar in a bigger plastic jar. That way if the little one leaks the big one keeps the stuff usable. Dave PS; you got a tool box?? hookitt 1 #5 June 19, 2003 Except the rest of us riggers and riglets, you are the only one that happens too. That's something I've never done any thing about. I just make sure the top is on tightly and put it in the Ziplock If it's in the ziplock, it's much less likely to unscrew the cap since it's no longer in contact with the walls of the bag or box. Or I just leave it at home. Did your Cypres Kit come with the plastic little flip open box with a Silcone soaked piece of felt? I keep that in my Riggers kit and if it becomes overly used, I just add more silicone to it. --------------------------------- Felt And Type 3... I just usually like to keep all the rigging stuff together because I'm so prone to losing stuff.Skydiving is for cool people only
crapflinger2000 1 #7 June 19, 2003 When my cypres stuff used to spill and my hands would get all gooey... darkwing 5 #8 June 19, 2003 I haven't enclosed it in something else, as it sits upgright in my rigging kit. Maybe I will add some extra protection just in case my kit gets overturned. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
cutaway 0 #9 June 20, 2003 I don't keep the bottle of silicone in my rigger's kit. I picked up a freebie from a PIA Symposium a while back. All it is, is a piece of pack cloth with a piece of polar fleece sewn inside of it. The fleece is loaded up with silicone and folded over...kinda like a silicone taco Since the silicone can ooze out, I made a little pouch made of clear vinyl and sealed the top end with velcro. The "taco" thingy sets inside. To lube up a closing loop, I peel open the vinyl pouch, slide the loop into the" taco", sqeeze the "taco" over the loop a couple of times, and then pull the loop out. This also keep my hands from getting silicone on them. A little silicone goeas a long way so I don't have to reload the "taco" very often. Art
riddler 0 #10 June 20, 2003 Quoteriggers and riglets Riglets. Nice I think I'll use that next time I meet a female rigger. I'll probably get socked in the eye for that.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
rigging65 0 #11 June 20, 2003 Actually, "riglets" refers to baby riggers...we're PC enough not to separate the girls from the boys "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward.
