Dinko 0 #1 December 8, 2008 Hell, Anybody can advice what lens should I use for taking tandem video/pictures ? I have sony HDR (cx6) kamera and canon rebel. is .42 the best choice for the camera to shoot tandem video? Thanks
Icon134 0 #2 December 8, 2008 It depends on how closely you plan to fly to the passenger... among other things... I use a 0.55 Century and I know there are people that don't use a Wide Angle at all. There's no right or wrong answer... other then trying to "match" the video's angle to the still camera closely... ScottLivin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife... Dinko 0 #3 December 8, 2008 I use .5 so far. But want to try .42 I like to go closer. But the most important - I have new camera (canon rebel) and I want to buy also widerange for the canoc too. But I want both (video-camera and canon) to get good shoots together (as they are at the same distance from the tandem). Don't want to get good video of the tandem while the pictures taken will be too small or too large. So I am looking for the answer how to combinate both lens.... PharmerPhil 0 #4 December 8, 2008 Keep in mind that the two will never perfectly match. Your CX6 is widescreen, and its image is about 75 percent wider than its height. Your Canon is 4:3, so its image is only 33 percent wider than its height. Plus if you print 8x10 or A4 photos, they are only 25 percent wider than their height. Personally, I like the still camera to be a little wider FOV than the video so I can crop to whatever print size I need. Also, if a hand or top of a head goes slightly out of frame, it isn't a big deal on video but is more bothersome (I think) in a static image. Everybody is different, but for tandems I use a .45 Raynox and either a 24mm lens for my film camera or a 15mm for my APS-sized DSLR. Last spring I posted this comparison using a few different combinations: http://www.philroberson.com/lenscomp/index.htm

I have two different lenses I use on my Canon (XSi) an 18-55 kit lens, and a 17 mm Tokina Lens but I'd like to get a 10-22mm Canon for fireworks... VideoFly 0 #7 December 8, 2008 I don’t use a wide angle on my video and use a 28mm on my still camera.
mircan 0 #8 December 9, 2008 I use 0.5 for video, stock 18-55 on EOS 400D for stills. * I`m piling up money for wider still lens thoughdudeist skydiver #
