Software/driver help!

Recommended Posts

For several years I have been using my MacBook (I movie HD) for my video work and have been very happy! I now have Sony Vegas 8 Platinum and Premiere Elements 2.0 on my desk-top computer (Windows XP Media Center Ver 2002 SP3) and my computer will not / can not find the correct drivers so I may import video from my Sony HC40 and HC5! I have loaded the software provided with the cameras as well as what I could find on the Sony website to no avail! Someone please tell me what I need to do so I my use my new software! :S

Thanks!

added: I'm using firewire!

Hey, I did not have to install any drivers for the camera to be detected.
Try to plug in the camera before starting vid programs.
It should be automatically detected and mounted up.
For some reason my HC40 is not detected when I plug it in while already running an editing program.
*if it doesnt work, restart and repeat, if still nothing i give up

I have tried with both cameras is several settings with the same result! I'm sure it is with the computer, as it gives the same result every time (unable to find the driver for the device) yet the initial popup window identifies that the device is a DV/HDV camera! After every attempt, I go to the device manager and remove the unknown device (big yellow ?) and try again in every configuration I can think of! Still no good result?>:(
Now I am convinced that Mac is a better product but still want to use what I have spent good $ on![:/]

then go over to apple's forums and read all the "My computer won't recognize my camera" threads. Actually you'll see em' on the Adobe forums, because Apple won't let threads live if they speak badly of apple products.

I'm convinced it's NOT the computer. I've written several articles on this subject, BTW. You can Google my name + 1394 and get a few hits. Both platforms have similar issues if the user isn't familiar.

Anyway...is network bridging turned on?
Have you assured that DownConvert over 1394 is enabled in your camera?
Camera in Play/Edit mode? Watched a really capable guy struggle with this setting only a couple days ago, computer wouldn't see his cam.
4 pin? 6pin?

What model motherboard is in your system? Is the 1394 on the board or separate card?

Some chipsets do not provide drivers for MCE, and you'd think XP drivers would work, but MCE is particular with some hardware.

Duglas,

Reading you FAQ and other info from your website, I took a good look at the 1394 card and chipset (VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller) and found that the driver for the card was generic. I updated the driver for the BUS and 1394 card and everything seems to be working fine!B| Thanks soo much for pointing me in the right direction!:)
