PharmerPhil 0 #26 January 13, 2009 QuoteAdditionally, Student A's freefly monster likes to hear himself speak. He goes on for 2-4 minutes looking at camera, speaking to the student through the camera and occasionally showing student as he talks to camera. God I hate that. The video should be about the customer. I can't stand it (and don't understand it) when the videot turns the camera on his or her self. You wanna be on video? Go jump on your own and hire a videographer. The only time I ever appear on a tandem video is when the student specifically requests it (very, very rare). davelepka 4 #27 January 13, 2009 QuoteStandard shot sequences are the staple of any high-turnover event video flow, in or out of skydiving. IMO, leave the overtly creative stuff to the fun jumps and year-end reel. I agree with this 100%. If a camera flyer takes the time to learn about the editing process, and the editor, they will find all sorts of opportunities for being different/creative within the confines of the 'standardized' format. It also encourages more technically precise camera work. When you have a structure to follow, all you can do to make your videos better is make each shot as perfect as possible. Quoteyou have a mad skills freeflyer that shoots every angle up/down/sideways and the student isn't always in the shot during transition, That guy shouldn't be on the team, or that guy shouldn't be allowed to use his 'mad skillz' while on a paid jump. Camera flying is kind of like swooping. I would love for every swoop to be a killer 450, with a 300 ft surf where I bank it over and brush the grass with the end cell, but if doing that will in anyway interfere with my making a safe landing, then I don't do that. As disco and fancy as a guy wants his video to be, if it gets in the way of your basic framing and proximity, you don't do that.
parachutist 2 #28 January 13, 2009 Quote Editor can't stand the first camera flyer, because there is no consistency; he talks for 4 mins for the ladies, and talks to the camera for 30 seconds for the guys, making the video a bit harder to drop into a template. The incessant talking of this omitted-name person held up entire plane loads. We'd all stand around waiting for his interview to end so the tandem student could board the plane. =p
