Blink 1 #1 January 26, 2009 Hey guys, I'm currently putting together a helmet for the next season, and am looking at mounts. I was wondering what mounts provided an anti-twist pin, I think I read that the RRS stuff does, but do any of the other mounts have A/T pins? Thanks. PhreeZone 20 #2 January 26, 2009 Anti-Twist for video or stills? Stroboframe has the 300-vid plate that works nicely with their mounts that has the pin in it for easy line up. RRS has it also for video on their plate. Stills if you get a plate designed for the body will have the anti twist built in. RRS is my favorite for the mounts.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Blink 1 #3 January 27, 2009 Video, not getting into stills yet. I've seen the Stroboframe but I'm not a huge fan. I do however like the Schumacher Quick Shoe. After thinking about it last night, I figured I can just modify the plate by drilling a hole, boring it out, and press fitting a pin in there. I've got a machining background with access to a shop, so I think that might be my best idea. The other idea I had, was using a FlatLock mount, and turning a pin that would snugly fit in the camera, then when I put the camera on, it would fit snugly in the slot. This idea seems like less work and less precision needed. (as opposed to the location of the pin on the Schumacher) Has anyone done something similar? I found that the outer diameter of a 10-32 screw fits in the locating hole very well. I don't use a QR for video, but I threaded a 10-32 screw up through the bottom of my helmet's top-plate where the locating pin would go (I think 7/16-inch in front of the 1/4-20 screw, but I am not sure). That screw stays put, and the 1/4-20 screw secures the video camera. It is pretty simple if you have a mounting surface that can be tapped. If I get a chance I'll post a photo. Icon134 0 #5 January 27, 2009 I was able to modify a Skysystems plate to provide antitwist but it wasn't the best. I believe there are some that use the Manfrotto 394 Rapid Connect 4 Low Profile QR System I'm not sure it can be set up in an antitwist configuration. as for me... I've tried a few different QR systems (Stroboframe, Skysystems Quad mount, Manfrotto RC2, and RRS) and now that I've started using RRS mounts I don't want to use anything else. It is expensive but it is also a very good system...Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife...
PharmerPhil 0 #6 January 27, 2009 QuoteIf I get a chance I'll post a photo. Here it is. In the upper right is the permanently mounted 10-32 in front of the 1/4-20 mounting screw. You can see to the left a few alternate locations for the video camera.
Blink 1 #7 January 27, 2009 Thank a lot guys, both good suggestions, I appreciate it. I like the idea of a QR, so I think I might try a pin with the FlatLock. What type of helmet is that? I've got a FTP on the way, but it's got a CF top, not metal.
PharmerPhil 0 #8 January 27, 2009 QuoteWhat type of helmet is that? It is kind of a one-off. It was a prototype of the original SkySystems' Vapor (2001?) and dates from the previous owner's of SkySystems out in Colorado.

kai3fly 0 #10 February 16, 2010 Its been bugging me looking for an Anti Twist Pin (aka VHS Pin, VHS Location Pin) I found Novoflex Video plate QPL-Video has a nice simple screw idea, (Scroll down on link, near bottom) http://www.novoflex.com/en/products/camera-support-systems/quick-release-systems/qbase/ i dont know why the skydiving quick release mounts dont include this obvious option. Bravo to ZKULLS for addressing the problem Also these skydiving QR seem to have a little bit of give and shake between mount and plate.
