chuckakers 425 #1 January 28, 2009 When using a hard drive or memory chip type video camera, do you still have to "rip" the footage into editing software or can you just drag and drop it. Drag and drop would sure save time when editing student vids.Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
PhreeZone 20 #2 January 28, 2009 Drag and drop. That is the beauty of the Solid state camera's if toy editing software supports them.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

As long as you buy a memory stick cam yeah, but not a harddrive cam as those are no good for skydiving, and your editing system needs to be up to it - check threads here for which software supports AVCHD files. ciel bleu, Saskia

I have no idea if all can record to memory sticks too, the HD will need to be able to be locked too for freefall or it'll still get damaged. I'd just buy a CX6/7/8/9/105 as those all work (unless you backfly/sitfly then CX6/7/8/9 are problematic). ciel bleu, Saskia
DSE 5 #7 January 28, 2009 All Sony HDD cams now accept MSPD cards. Not all other HDD-based cams accept flash-media cards. Not all cams lock the HDD, either. IMO, avoid an HDD-based camera. All PC software now supports AVCHD directly off the card, but due to speed issues, you're better of Xferring the data to an HDD folder first. No Apple software allows for direct editing from the card. Avg jump takes less than one minute to Xfer. It's also easy to automate much of the tandem workflow, depending on the software you choose. Looking at Sony Vegas. I have a trial version of Vegas Studio 9. It looks like it's got more stuff than needed for basic editing. Does it have good workflow automation - and can you explain that a bit? I also noticed your tutoring vids on youtube the other day. I'll be getting some instruction from those as well where applicable.Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
