TRV19 viewfinder focus issue

Hi all. I just bought a Sony TRV19 on ebay. It came yesterday, and all was looking peachy. I was playing around with it today, and to my dismay now the viewfinder is only in focus when it is pulled all the way out. When it is pushed in the image goes completely out of focus. What have I done, and how can I correct this? Anyone know? Thanks in advance!

IIRC, you can't. The lenses need to be spaced to be in focus.

Last night, playing around with it everything was good. The viewfinder was in focus in all modes of operation. All that has happened between now and then was the camera sitting on my desk for a day. Now the only time it is in focus is when it is pulled out all the way. If it is pushed in and you bring your eye back about 2 inches it is in perfect focus, but not when your eye is up against the viewfinder. Strange, no?

This is as designed. The lens at the end of the eyepiece needs to be extended to focus on the screen inside. Everything is normal and that is the only way the TRV line works.

i dunno....

i had a few of those trv sonys.
and most of them,, trv20 trv27 trv7 maybe.. had a little lever UNDER the eyepiece which you could pivot, on about a 60 degree range,,,to affect the focus. IN the eyepiece

That is the diopter, that allows for the fine focusing but it still requires the eyepiece to be pulled out for the spacing to be correct.

Thanks for the clarification, after reading the f*$%ing manual it is now obvious that the camera is operating as designed. I don't know why I thought it was in focus with the viewfinder all the way in when I got the camera. No issue as it turns out. Thanks for the responses though!
