Putting pictures on a DVD after your video

I use the IMAC to edit my videos and use IDVD to burn them. I use a Dell that has been set up for pictures only and that is what i use to burn the Digital Pictures to a cd. Makes the prosses faster using two computers. Question I have we are trying to figure out if once the DVD is done can we put those pictures on the DVD without copying over the Video. SAVE MONEY THING!!!!. LET ME KNOW

Cost of a CD is less then $.20 a CD. .10 or cheaper if you look around. Are you seriously trying to say 20 Cents on a $100 video?

Well what if he was using say sony vagas pro 9 on a PC machine or MAC running bootcamp and XP or vista, then in the name of saving time could you put both the video and stills on the same DVD?

I seem to recall some of you guy are doing it.

Its far easier to hand two pieces of media to the customer. CD is able to burn while you are doing the last second tweaks and renders to the DVD and then as soon as the CD spits out you toss the DVD in and the render is about ready to start burning the DVD.

You can do both on one piece of media but what I would do before giving it to a customer is to try it and see if the Instant print machines at the local Walmart will read the DVD, last I tried (about 2 years ago) they were only set up with CDROM and could not read DVD. Since that is still one of the most popular printing locations I'd try to make it easy on customers to get their prints.

I see, that is how I had been doing it, for some reason I thought I had read on here folks were dumping to one media.

Still trying to get a grip on all this new AVCHD and the like and this is why I asked, I think your using this format and vagas?

Using Sony Vegas Movie Studio Pt 9 (There doesn't appear to be a Vegas Pro 9 available) in Conjunction with DVD Architect... it is easy to create a DVD with a video (that will play when inserted into a standard DVD) and a folder with Photos.

Like others have said for your everyday tandem student I wouldn't consider doing it... but for an experienced Skydiver I might consider it (and have delivered a single disk with both video and Stills.

I must be looking at the wrong thing then, because the box had a number 9 on it. must be an upgrade to 8 or something, I have to go look it up again.

It may be Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 "Platinum Pro Pack"...

Which has some additional software included that the Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9 doesn't have.

Vegas Pro hasn't been stepped up to a version 9 yet... and it's a lot more money then the Vegas Movie Studio (VMS) versions of the software...

The primary reason I only use a single disk for fun jumpers is that they are usually paying a lot less then a tandem student is and although DVD/CDs are cheap if I can save money and only use one then so be it that's what they get... I do have lightscribe DVDs and can make them look pretty cool though... and generally included instructions with the DVDs in the form of a printed sheet with the disk...

I was trying to do all my home work and and get up to speed on all the new changes in gear and the fact that my older G4 won't support AVCHD, I was in fact looking at VMS 9 PT pro pack and reading about it and started thinking it was the way to go if I got a new CX 12 or CX 100, but that means a new computer now too.

I have a lot of other pressing business to attend to and this is something I'm working to understand in my spare time, so in other words I'm far from up to speed in this newer stuff.

Amen to that... I have a MBP 17" w/4GB Ram that I edit with. I've been doing everything in iMovie 6 HD and iDVD. I have about a 3 minute leader I put in front of my tandem video and the video is approx. 6 minute so my "movie" typically runs from 8-10 minutes in length. I then export to iDVD and burn it with a fancy menu set up with moving photos and sound. The end product is nicer than anything I have ever seen given to a student from a dropzone. Granted, I've not seen A LOT of final products from A LOT of dropzones but I would put my video up against ANYONES video in my area from the surrounding dropzones. I am a very good tandem videographer and my edits are top notch to boot.

I just believe that the customer is paying a premium (even if I'm not seeing it) and they deserve a top notch product. I am very proud of my work and constantly strive to improve upon it.

Typically my edits take just under 10 minutes to capture from tape into iMovie (plugging in camera, cueing up, real time capture), Then I have in the neighborhood of 10 minutes edit time (Title screen, cross dissolve transitions between clips, manipulating sound during pre & post interview, repeat and slow mo parts of the dive like exit and opening and then dropping a hi res still with a ken burns affect at the end of the video). I then export to iDVD which renders it in like 2 minutes and then burn a disk image of the DVD which takes like 17 minutes. Once the disk image is burned I burn that to DVD and that typically takes about 5 minutes. So all and all I put out a VERY, VERY nice tandem video with all the bells and whistles and 100% professionally done in about 45 minutes from the time I land.

Being that I work at a very small Cessna dropzone with 3 other video guys I can usually edit between loads that I'm on. If not I just mail them out.

I found that I can burn a CD of the images with Toast while I'm editing, quicker than adding the stills to the DVD which makes the burn time longer thus increasing the time to the customers hands even more. Plus it's just easier to hand the student a DVD & a CD... Here's your video, here's your stills. I don't have to explain or field phone calls all week long explaining to people how to find their still pictures thus decreasing my hassle.

I'm sure there are things I can do to speed things up like, shorten my leader to about a minute. Take out the fancy DVD menu with the moving photos and sound, etc. I can probably shave 5-10 minutes off my burn times. It's just that they look so IMPRESSIVE. Who knows, if I save enough time, I may be willing to sacrifice.

I've recently upgraded my internal hard drive to a 320GB 7200RPM drive to up my free hard drive space to about 100GB from the typical 25 I have now and also afford me a Windows partition through boot camp with a 100GB partition. I'm kicking around the idea of trying the VASST edit method with Vegas Pro. If I can get my final products out in say 15 minutes start to finish without having to sacrifice too much of the eye candy I might just make the switch. I'm gonna play with it this season. We'll see.

I love my mac and the simplistic way of doing things and the super nice end results. However, if all I have to do is put a little effort into learning a new way of doing things, I'd be all for that to save me a half and hour per tandem video edit.

I picked up a full version vegas pro 8 on ebay for $335.00 to my door
Now be aware of academic versions for around the same cost.Mine is not an academic version.
I'm running it with bootcamp imac intel 2.3 with 3 gigs ram windows xp.
An external drive to handle the video files "my book studio edition" 1 tb
They have some 2 tb's for around 269.00 now.

That sucks! I kinda wish i had a good laptop pc to do the videos on.It sucks booting into windows .I'm still learning the software.
