Difference between 3MOS and CMOS

I have a friend who is looking to buy a new camcorder and her and I were both wondering what the major difference's are between the Sony HDR-CX100 and the Panasonic HDC-HS100. Both claim to be high def, but the Panasonic claims that theirs has the equivilent of 3MOS sensors vs the Sony only has the single CMOS. They are the exact same price on B&H. Also the Panasonic has a 60G hard drive vs the Sony 8G of flash memory. The camera will never be used for jumping, but I figured I would get some opinions on each one before she makes a final decision.
