AHoyThere 0 #1 May 30, 2009 I really did search first but didn't find the answers. Can anyone answer a few questions about the AVCHD files and how to work with them? Is it okay to just copy the MTS files to the computer? It is much faster to copy these files than importing the files to the computer with the software that came with the camera. Even though the 'import' utility is much slower, after importing the MTS files are converted to .m2ts files and .modd and .moff files have been added to the destination folder. Does this switch to .m2ts make any change to the video file? Are the .modd and .moff files important or necessary? What are they for? Is there any reason that the video should be imported to the computer or is it okay to simply copy the .MTS files. After copying the .MTS files, is it okay to simply reformat the card in the camera to clear it? When the card is in the computer the following folders are visible... .Trashes + AVCHD + BDMV with Index.BDM and Movieobj.BDM files + CLIPINF with .CPI files + PLAYLIST with .MPL file + STREAM with .MTS files + AVF_INFO + DCIM What are .BDM and .CPI and .MPL files and are they important? I know that's a lot of questions. Thanks in advance. P.S. Here's a link to a CX12 video I shot last weekend. bomb420 1 #2 May 30, 2009 This is a crash course in avchd: [urlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD[/url]. I just copy over the MTS files into a directory by date and then description. My NLE, Vegas, gobbles these up perfectly without the extra metadata, indexes and thumbnails. The import is nice if you like to browse your folders but feel its kinda a waste of time during the copying. (I generally do this when I forgot I never did it from last weekend and now on a 10minute call) Besides that, you can always tell the software to search the folder and index the mts files when your computer is idle.HYPOXIC
skyclown2000 0 #3 June 2, 2009 I'm finding it to be more cumbersome than previous archiving. No thumbnails are a pain, and the PMB software takes forever to do the numerous scans and other duties. I'm using Vegas and could use some tips for how to take the files from the camera, store them on my comp, and then bring them into Vegas efficiently. If anyone can share their technique I'd appreciate it. I'm not the smartest guy when it comes to computers so please explain it as if you were talking to someone in velcro shoes. Icon134 0 #4 June 2, 2009 You can copy the MTS files directly from the media card without even needing to use Vegas... Take the card out of the Camcorder and stick it in a Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo card reader and look in the /AVCHD/STREAMS/ folder or something like that... then copy the MTS files from that folder into a folder on your hard drive. To use the videos in vegas open the folder that has the video clip you want and drag the files to the media bin in the vegas window or just drag it into your timeline directly... as for organizing the footage... I generally store my raw footage on a seperate hard drive and organize by date (specifically by the day the footage is shot) and I acutally use the PMB to capture footage when I can... I really wish it was more functional then it is... (like I wish I could get it to find the MTS videos that have been copied to my Digital FOCI Media Card reader/hard drive... but unfortunately I can't get it to "import" from the hard drive... but what should I expect in a free software... Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife...
