Corrupt files - CX6

Recommended Posts

Help! After filming two tandems on Saturday, I was horrified to see after filming a 3rd on Sunday that the files for the first two tandems are corrupt. They won't play back on the camera and don't appear when the disk is in the laptop (tried on multiple computers).

They had previously played back fine on Saturday when previewed to the customers.

This is a Sony CX6e with sony 4gb memory card.

Has anyone experienced this before or know how to recover the files?

It is suspected that the card might be slightly damaged.

there is an indexing repair built into the camera. But... if the files aren't showing up on a computer, they're likely not repairable.
Are you formatting or deleting after each jump? You're better off formatting, for future reference.

Some disc utilities might be able to reassemble the fragments.

Ah, the memory of the reliable miniDV tapes....;)

Well now....I'll bet I can show at least a 20:1 DV tape failure ratio to cards...whether they're Xpress, CF, MSPD, or SDHC cards...

But I know what you mean. The easier argument is "the memory of the DV tape that could be stored on a shelf and found by fingertip vs *SEARCH*.":D

Thanks for the help chaps, Sandisk's RescuePro was the first port of call but sadly no joy.

We shoot the videos over the weekend and then they are editted and sent to the customer during the week. I suppose I am lucky that I didn't fill the card up (usually about 5 jumps) on Saturday.

Thanks for the tip on formatting. I will do that instead of deleting the files in future but this is the first time i've seen this. All the other 3 cards I use are fine.

Bugger. Anybody else seen anything similar with memory sticks and reasonably intensive video use?

I have used this camera for about a season with no problems and am now incredibly nervous about relying on this for future tandems?

It may be the first time you've seen it, but I GUARANTEE that the guys that are merely deleting files vs formatting the card will start coming out of the woodwork once they're using their cards a lot.
I've seen corruption with crappy cards/low grade cards used in EX1 camcorders, so it doesn't surprise me to hear of it in the CX series.
We've used file-based cameras for years without any problems.
