Pink lines on old DV tape footage?

Recommended Posts

So one of our tandem customers called me yesterday and said that she's finally broken her DVD that i shot and edited back in 2006 and was wondering if i still had the footage. I'm in the habit of keeping everything and was rather pleased when i found the DV tape with the correct date on it.

It's been stored in its plastic box in a larger cardboard box at the bottom of my cupboard, but when i put it in my HC3 last night to have a look there are blurry pink horizontal lines across the footage. Anyone ever seen this before? I made a really girly noise and pulled the tape out immediately, then stuck one of the tapes that i used this past weekend in and recorded for a bit and it didn't seem to affect my camera any.

Can anyone offer any advice? The tape is a JVC and the footage was originally recorded in my old PC 109.

Thanks
PJ

sounds like head offset. This occurs from time to time. You'd think DV is DV, but sometimes there are mis-matches.
Try the tape in a different deck, see if that eliminates the problem.
Playing it won't create more problems for you, so leave the "girlish squeals" behind. :)
